My people,
Just letting you all know LEO Hearted will be participating in the National Alliance on Mental Illness’ (NAMI) annual fundraiser walk again this year. NAMI is one of the leading organizations that provide resources and advocacy for mental illness sufferers and their families in the country. Mental Illness is something that can affect us in many ways, it knows no bounds, sees no color, and no one is immune. Just last year my agency lost four Officers (that I am aware of) to suicide, which a majority of the time is the byproduct of some breakdown in mental health.
Unfortunately, for far too long there has existed a stigmatization culture of mental illness and those in need of assistance. We need to begin to change this culture and help push toward a more healthy resolution. One that builds a community of understanding, one that leaves officers feeling empowered enough to seek the help when they need it.
This year LEO Hearted has created their own team and we would love for you guys to join the team and walk with us. The name of the team is “LEO Hearted” and the link is at the bottom of this page. If you are unable to walk this year, we ask you donate to the team and spread the word. Let’s begin to raise awareness and show that we are strong enough to fight against the #1 killer of law enforcement.
Thanks,
-LEO Hearted
